The reboot of the film known in Hungarian as Hegylakó is being handled by Lionsgate studio, with Chad Stahelski—the brilliant director behind the John Wick movies—at the helm! The immortal main character will be played by Henry Cavill.

The new movie will likely revisit the 1986 classic directed by Russel Mulcahy, where Christopher Lambert played the Scottish Connor MacLeod. Immortal characters fight each other their entire lives, and only one can remain at the end to claim ultimate power. The film will explore the secrets of eternal life more deeply. The only places where immortals cannot fight each other are sacred grounds.
The Story
According to the director’s interview on thedirect.com, the story will span from the early 1500s to the present and future, taking place in New York and Hong Kong. It will follow a 500-year-old immortal who has mastered numerous martial arts at an expert level. For this role, the filmmakers needed an actor with a physique capable of convincingly portraying such a character—and they found him in Henry Cavill.
Russell Crowe, the actor, will likely play Ramirez’s mentor in the upcoming film.
About the Hero
They revealed a bit about the protagonist: he dislikes the situation he finds himself in, but the story will also include a romantic subplot.
The reboot will borrow one or two motifs from the 1992 Highlander TV series, where Adrian Paul played the lead role successfully. Fans would love to see him return in a role like the mentor figure, a part Sean Connery originally played. Personally, I still prefer Duncan MacLeod to this day.
