Launch of Starship Spacecraft

When the next Earth-Mars transfer window opens, Elon Musk’s crewless Starship spacecraft will launch to test the reliability of a safe landing on Mars. If the test is successful, the first crewed mission could be launched in about 4 years, around 2028 or 2029!

Starship
The SpaceX Starship spacecraft and the Super Heavy rocket – together known as Starship – represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth’s orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Starship is the most powerful rocket ever developed, capable of carrying up to 150 metric tons in a fully reusable configuration and using 250 metric tons in expendable mode.

Goal

Building a self-sustaining city within 20 years!

The multi-planetary existence, conquering Earth-like planets, and making them habitable (possibly through terraforming), will further increase humanity’s chances of survival!

Why Mars?

Why Mars? On average, Mars is 140 million miles away, making it one of Earth’s closest habitable neighbors. Mars is about half as far from the Sun as Earth, so it still receives adequate sunlight. It’s a bit cold, but we can heat it up. The atmosphere consists mostly of CO2, with some nitrogen, argon, and trace elements, which means we could grow plants on Mars simply by compressing the atmosphere. Mars’ gravity is about 38% of Earth’s gravity, so we would be able to lift and anchor heavy objects. Plus, the Sun is relatively close to Mars, making solar energy viable.

Elon Musk and SpaceX Starships

“I want to wake up in the morning and think the future will be amazing – and that’s what being a space-faring civilization is about. It’s about believing in the future and thinking it will be better than the past. And I can’t think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars.”
